  • OSAPAC is pleased to announce a five year extension to the licensing of NOD32.
  • OSAPAC is currently determining its licensing priorities for 2008-2009. Specific details will be included in the vendor calls that will be posted to MERX..

  • Holt Software has released the Turing software free of charge for personal, commercial, and educational use. Turing 4.1.1 is available for download as a ZIP file here.
  • There is an upgrade to SMART Ideas to allow it to run under Microsoft Vista. Download it from this link .
  • There is an update to Fathom 2. This download will bring it to version 2.1.

 

  • Technicians and potential users of Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional participated in online PD sessions. They have been recorded and links to the sessions appear on this page.
  • OSAPAC is pleased to announce that Reading and Writing Achievement, licensed to support the EQAO Secondary School Literacy test has been upgraded to Version 4 to reflect the changes in the test. Technicians will be able to download ISOs from the OSAPAC FirstClass system in the next couple of weeks.

  • Contact OSAPAC. A new feedback mechanism appears in the left menu. OSAPAC will respond publicly to questions raised by website visitors.
  • ESET announces an upgrade to the NOD32 anti-virus package for Windows. Details on the Technical Support page.
  • Install the OESS Software Database on your Handheld computer. Download the list of current titles and install them on your Palm OS handheld computer for quick and easy reference.

  • Cricksoft announces the release of Clicker 5.2 to address some issues, notably with Internet Explorer 7. See the Technical Page for details.
  • Math Trek 1, 2, 3 and Math Strategies Primary are now Ministry licensed. Technicians may download ISO files from the FirstClass system.
  • Evaluation of software meeting the current year's priorities is under way. Check back often to hear what ends up being licensed.
  • The Ministry of Education has licensed Adobe Photoshop Elements, Simply Accounting Pro 2006, Quickbooks, Sage Entrepreneur, and Quicktax for use in Ontario schools. OESS reps and School Board technicians are invited to log onto the OSAPAC FirstClass system to obtain instructions about how to download ISO images for immediate installation.
  • KCP Technologies has posted an updater to The Geometer's Sketchpad that will bring it to version 4.07.

News...

  • The Ministry of Education has licensed AutoCAD LT 2007 for use in Ontario schools. OESS reps and School Board technicians are invited to log onto the OSAPAC FirstClass system to obtain instructions about how to download ISO images for immediate installation.
  • An issue has been identified with the latest release of Dragon Naturally Speaking. The vendor has created an MSI patch that resolves this issue. School District Technicians should log onto the OSAPAC FirstClass system to see a discussion of the issue and details about how to download the software patch. Details are available in the OESS Technicians conference.
  • Details about Teacher licensing for the NOD32 anti-virus, anti-malware software is found here .
  • After a review of the Survey and a gap analysis between the Ontario Curriculum (and the impact of the SQC) and the suite of currently Ministry licensed software, OSAPAC recommended that the Ministry set the 2006-2007 software priorities as listed below. These priorities are supportive of the Ministry of Education's curriculum directions.:
    • Early Literacy (English and French)
    • Early Mathematics (English and French)
    • Intermediate / Senior Science
    • Web Collaboration
  • In 2003, the Ministry of Education licensed StarOffice 7 for use in all Ontario schools and School Authorities. SUN has released version 8 which may be used in the same manner. This update to the StarOffice suite is available only by download from the SUN website. It may be used in school networks and teachers / students have license to use at home for educational purposes.

    Properly configured, StarOffice 8 will read and write to popular file formats such as the Microsoft Office and WordPerfect offerings.
  • An issue has been identified and corrected with the XOR and NOT gate in Edison 4. The links below will resolve the issue. Extract the files from the archive and install into the Edison 4 directory. (The default location is c:\Edison4)

  • New feature to the Learning Object Repository...in addition to the new FAQ, check out what's newly contributed to the repository or what the latest downloads are. Stay on top of the activity surrounding the Repository.
  • More reasons to syndicate OSAPAC. OSAPAC announces two new RSS feeds from this site. osapac_new_releases.xml lets you know what titles have recently been shipped. osapac_repository.xml gives you updates on learning resources that Ontario teachers have contributed to the Learning Materials Repository.
  • Put OSAPAC on your site! OSAPAC now offers an RSS feed of information from the Bulletin Board section. You can announce current OESS releases and other news at the same time that the OSAPAC website does. The document http://www.osapac.org/osapac.xml should be parsed and displayed by an RSS viewer. For an interesting article explaining RSS, follow this link . If you are using the Firefox browser, the OSAPAC site features "Livemarks". Click on the orange icon in the bottom right corner of your browser window to add to your bookmarks.
